Storytelling Marketing | Where in Digital to Start?

Storytelling doesn't seem to go out of style, but boy-o-boy it can go sideways-->in a hurry! Here are some ideas for those considering storytelling as a marketing strategy and also considerations for creating a more robust campaign for those that have already engaged with this tactic. This topic is so expansive I had to narrow it down into the "where".

Where can you use story telling? Here are a few areas, but the sky is the limit. Each media should be chosen with your strongest message to the targeted audience you are seeking.

Info-graphics

  • Do you have a powerful message to relay based on numbers?

  • Numbers and stats are more digestible in this format.

  • Is there a larger picture or micro-idea you need to scale to be digested?

  • Needing a global outlook or a micro dive into your product or service? This one lets you quickly break that story down into digestible micro or macro bytes.

Graphic Design

  • Does your story have a "face" via person, product or place?

  • Is the "face" of your story relatable?

  • When you are finished...does it look like an infographic? yikes! Check out this article for some "how to" tips at uxplanet.org

Videography

  • Who are you casting, where are you recording, is the clothing and climate evergreen? Create a story that is relatable anywhere & anytime.

  • Can your target demographic relate to the cast?

  • Is your video a story that is memorable?

  • Does it quickly elicit an emotion? The neuroscience of storytelling is a topic within its own self. Read on about what the experts say about why storytelling is effective via science at sciencedaily.com.

Social Media

  • Is your call to action connected to the story you are telling? Non-profit - donate now, global concept-learn more, retail-shop now.

  • Do your graphics match the copy of the post, ad cover? Good story telling need to be repeated and be more consistent than other types of marketing because it is selling a more complex story or emotion.

  • A simple checklist of accomplishments for storytelling?

With storytelling marketing you never have to choose just one type of media.
